2/24/14 Elder Peterson - Amazing Week!

Alright, I don't even know where to begin for this last week. It was
really amazing.
It is a brand new transfer. My new roommate is Elder Gomez and he is
pretty cool. We are really enjoying this new transfer. Elder Gomez
played for the Utah Utes and he is all about getting big and staying
fit and some is wanting us to get up with him. At 5:30 in the morning
to work out....I am surprised with myself. I have actually been doing
it. It is awesome, I am going to get big.
Alright so we started teaching a couple people this past week. We
received a member referral from Bro. Sogunro. It is his neighbor a
couple of doors down and their names are Steve and Debbie. Steve went
in for surgery this past week and we were able to
give him and Debbie a blessing. They felt the Spirit super strong and
they were so ready to accept the Gospel. We invited them to be
baptized and they accepted for April 12! It is going to be awesome I
am so excited to teach. Also, we were able to meet with a less active
family and two of the daughters are not members and we put them on
date for March 29th! This week has been a full of miracles it is truly

Well that is about it for this week. I will talk to you all later and
I love you so much!!

Elder Peterson speaking at an Eagle Court of Honor. Here's what a sister who attended had to say of him: Your missionary is doing great things here. He gave a wonderful talk last week at an Eagle Scout Court of Honor. He said such sweet things about you guys and your support while he was going through the scout program. You have done an amazing job with him.
Thank you, Tara H.

2/24/14 Hermana Peterson - The Worst Pick-up Line Ever!!

¿Sus ojos son suyos? ¿Are your eyes yours´?  No, I´m renting them... Of course they're mine! Oh geez. Men these days.... Seth, Caleb, Elder Peterson, please don´t ever ask a girl if her eyes are hers.  I just have to laugh. It´s an everyday thing.
Okay, Mom remember about 8 months ago, when Jake wrote you and apologized for not listening to you and learning how to play the piano? Remember how I laughed and laughed and laughed because it was so funny? Remember how now I´m eating my laughs. Mom AND Dad, I wish I would´ve listened to you when you told me to learn how to cook. I seriously have never felt so inadequate in my life. All of the other hermanas that I have EVER lived with know SO much more about the kitchen than I do. And it´s not like I don´t know what´s going on, I just feel SO out of place. NO ONE IS EVER GOING TO WANT TO MARRY ME!!!! Gosh. But, I came up with a plan of action. When I come home, I´m going to sleep in the kitchen. I´m going to eat, breathe, and live cooking. Oh man mom, I´m sorry. This is bad news. I knew there were more reasons why I´m on a mission... Also mom, you´re going to be so proud of me. This week, I was the one who ran out of toilet paper and I went and found more and put it where it needed to go. Thank you, thank you.

Okay, this week I had some super spiritual personal moments. I testify that Heavenly Father hears and answers our prayers, but it is never on OUR time. It is ALWAYS on His time, and it will be when He knows we will need it most. So we have a lot of hermanas in our group that are struggling really bad. I´ve been praying and praying and praying and even fasting to know what it is that we can do to help them. The other day, we went to a members house and looked at their Ensigns and they had the November 2011 Conference edition. For about a week, I had been really wanting to read the talk by President Uchtdorf "Forget Me Not" and I finally could! They let me borrow it, and the next morning I was reading it and I got to the 4th point in his talk, "forget not the "why" of the gospel." I was blown away, and KNEW that this was my answer. I can´t describe what this meant to me. I have read this part over at least 2 times every day since. It´s amazing. I invite all of you to read the talk, members of the church or not. It seriously is an inspired talk and I know that it will bless all of your lives. I´ve even included the link and the section here, to make your life easier but please read the whole talk!

Fourth, forget not the “why” of the gospel.

Sometimes, in the routine of our lives, we unintentionally overlook a vital aspect of the gospel of Jesus Christ, much as one might overlook a beautiful, delicate forget-me-not. In our diligent efforts to fulfill all of the duties and obligations we take on as members of the Church, we sometimes see the gospel as a long list of tasks that we must add to our already impossibly long to-do list, as a block of time that we must somehow fit into our busy schedules. We focus on what the Lord wants us to do and how we might do it, but we sometimes forget why.

My dear sisters, the gospel of Jesus Christ is not an obligation; it is a pathway, marked by our loving Father in Heaven, leading to happiness and peace in this life and glory and inexpressible fulfillment in the life to come. The gospel is a light that penetrates mortality and illuminates the way before us.
While understanding the “what” and the “how” of the gospel is necessary, the eternal fire and majesty of the gospel springs from the “why.” When we understand why our Heavenly Father has given us this pattern for living, when we remember why we committed to making it a foundational part of our lives, the gospel ceases to become a burden and, instead, becomes a joy and a delight. It becomes precious and sweet.

Let us not walk the path of discipleship with our eyes on the ground, thinking only of the tasks and obligations before us. Let us not walk unaware of the beauty of the glorious earthly and spiritual landscapes that surround us.
My dear sisters, seek out the majesty, the beauty, and the exhilarating joy of the “why” of the gospel of Jesus Christ.

The “what” and “how” of obedience mark the way and keep us on the right path. The “why” of obedience sanctifies our actions, transforming the mundane into the majestic. It magnifies our small acts of obedience into holy acts of consecration.
boom. powerful.

Anyways, to continue with the story, I told my companion about this and we came up with a plan of action. Later that day, our zone leaders called us to ask something and I suggested that they look for the talk and read that section because it´s amazing and we told them about a little of our plan. They looked it up, and their whole plan of action is based off of that part! They had been thinking a lot of the same things that week too. Then we had consejo (leadership counsel) today, and it was the SAME theme that we talked about and it was exactly what President and Hermana Arrington had learned about this past week in a conference with Elder Ballard. Everything we do needs to stem from our testimony of the Atonement and the love that we have for the Savior. It is the only way we will find joy in the journey. I LOVE my Savior and am so grateful for Him in my life. We, as members of the church have the responsibility to help others come unto HIM and no one else. We are members of the church of JESUS CHRIST of latter-day saints. I know our church is the SAME church that He had when He was here on the earth. In the bible it talks about how his church in the last days will bear his name. This is evidence enough of the message that we have. In the moments of my mission that I have progressed the most and found the most joy have been when I have had HIM closest to my heart. My heart should be one with the Atonement of Jesus Christ. There is NO OTHER WAY!!! Also, I invite you to read Luke 22, when Our Savior was in the Garden of Gethsemane. Develop your relationship with Him. It will be the greatest thing you´ve ever done!
I got an email from Catalina today and she´s doing so good! She said that she, many times, goes to church by herself but she doesn´t mind because she feels so good when she goes. It made me so happy to read that! Also, her boyfriend proposed to her so she´s making wedding plans! YAY! Hermana Miskin also told me that she had a mini cambio in Talcahuano a few weeks ago and they visited Marcelo and Danay and they are still strong!! YAY!!!! Please keep them all in your prayers! :)

Also, I wasn´t going to say anything until after I knew for sure, but I´ve been thinking a lot about extending my mission. I didn´t know if it was something the Lord had in his plans for me, but it has been on my mind for about a week now. Well, today, I found out that since the World Cup will be being played in July and August, our plane tickets are already bought and the missionaries that are going home in July and August are not going to be able to extend. So, the Lord needs me back in Arizona in August for sure. I truly love this work. Nothing makes me happier than sharing the gospel with the people here in Chile. I have truly found where my heart belongs. I´m so glad the Lord knows all and is in charge of all :)
We had a rough week proselyting wise, lost a few days. BUT, we have awesome plans and we´re keepin on. Here´s to MARCH! What?!?!

Welp, that´s a wrap. Word from Cauquenes.

2/17/14 Hermana Peterson - HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!

I am an old fart. Pardon my language Grandma Peterson, in this case there just isn´t any other way to say it :)
I laughed out loud at Leah´s card, cried when I read Bekah´s, didn´t know I had been such a missionary when I had read mom´s card (I seriously stuffed Easter Pageant fliers in my classmates mailboxes?), I felt a tender side of Seth that I´ve never felt and the poster is going up in the house, and I just felt all the love that little Cabers can muster. I also felt love from dad pouring out from the box...
Opening up my birthday box

Thank you, Seth

Yes, I'm Ninja! Great shirt, Dad!!
So for starters, my birthday has been super! We ate breakfast with the Scholes in the morning as a district and the Elders brought my package and my letter from JAKE!!! Happiest girl ever! I love you so much and thank you for thinking of me on my day! Mom, your taste in clothing is amazing.  Also, we will have an origami party tonight!! Tonight we´re eating French fries with our ward mission leader and his wife!!! (they seriously have changed my life. I love them so much). Hermano Marcelo you met him on Christmas. Also, Vilma and friends are planning a surprise party for me that I know NOTHING about...but it´s been so good! I´ve felt so much love from everyone, thank you thank you thank you!
The Scholes made me breakfast and a cake!

They were trick candles

My Zone on my birthday
A Chilean tradition is to put your face in the cake and take a bite. Now, I'm Chilean!!
Yesterday in church we had a lesson in Sunday School about Heavenly Father. I started to think, and the thought occurred to me, that 21 years ago today, it was my turn to leave the presence of Him and our Savior Jesus Christ to come here to earth and get my body! 21 years ago, I dwelt with them, talked with them, laughed with them, etc. I´m so glad that even though I´m not physically with them, that I still have the means to communicate with them through prayer. I´m grateful for the knowledge I have as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ. I know that God and Jesus Christ have bodies like ours. We learn this by reading the FIRST CHAPTER of the Bible. We were/are created in their own image. The Holy Ghost is the 3rd member of the Godhead and he is a spirit and by these means, he can be with us! I´m so grateful to be here on the earth, learning and teaching these special truths that help me to understand more of who I am. I invite you to better your relationship with our Heavenly Father through prayers, sincere prayers.
1. I cut my hair again last week. Only like an inch and a half, but it was SO needed.
2. My lactose intolerance is coming back again. I can´t really do anything with the members and the food they give me, but I´m buying lactose free milk and yogurt and am eating Trix so I´m doing the best I can! Miraculously, I´m still able to eat gluten :) YAY for missions!
And sometimes I organize my Trix...
3. I had a mini cambio up in Linares this past week, and the trees there have white fuzz on the backs of the leaves. COOLEST THING EVER!
4. Happy birthday this week to Stephen, Sterling, and Annamarie! I love you all and hope your days are as amazing as mine has been!
5. My back is at about 95%! YAY! I went out and worked 4 full days this week! Progress.
Physical Therapy
And I think that´s all! I love you all so much and can´t believe I only have 6 months left of my mission. Seriously though, thinking about coming home makes me want to throw up a little bit. It makes me all sorts of nervous and stuff. BUT, I love you so much and am so glad you are mine forever!!!

Please keep Bernardita, Lurgardi, and Patricia in your prayers. The first 2 went to church yesterday and Bernardita has fecha for the 8th of March and Lugardi for the 15th. We´re still working with Patricia, but the extra prayers would be fabulous!

Keep being little missionaries you crazies. The Lord puts people in our paths that only we can help!

2/17/14 Elder Peterson - Eventful Week!

Well this past week has been pretty eventful. We were able to go to
the temple! It was an amazing experience. I love going to the temple.
Also, we were able to be in a missionary choir for the Why I Believe
Fireside this past Sunday. It was really awesome. I was able to see a
few of the recent converts that I had part in their conversion while
we were there. It was so awesome!

Here is a link to the missionary choir singing at the Fireside:

We had a really crazy week. There
was too much going on and we didn't have a lot of time to do anything!
It was really hard to get work done but we tried. We had basically two
snow days this past week. On Thursday we had to stay in all day so we
updated all day. Then on Friday we weren't able to drive our cars so
we decided to go to the church and shovel the sidewalks and then we
made a snowman with a sign in his hand and it was right in
front of the church. It was really fun. Lastly we were able to pick up
a couple new investigators! Their names are Gilbert and Naj and they
run a group home. They are really nice but it was kind of hard to
teach them because of all the ruckus going on in the background. But
they are really cool! We are meeting with them this Thursday.

Well I hope everyone had a great Valentine's Day! I can't believe that
my sister is 21 today! It is unbelievable. I love her so much! And I
love you all too.

We'll talk to you all later. Have a great week!

2/10/14 Elder Peterson - It is cold here!!

Things are going pretty well out here. It has been pretty cold the
past few days but other than that things are going great. Elder
Redmond is picking things up fast.

So this week things were pretty slow. We had a lot of appointments
that we were excited for but they all fell through. We kind of were
feeling disappointed but we knew that we were doing our best so that
is all that matters. We had a very sweet miracle last night though. We
were going to visit one of our investigators Victoria who is kind of
struggling a little bit. She got a job which is great but she is super
busy now. We were going to make a drop in visit and she wasn't there
but there was another lady in the home named Sinnah who opened the
door and let us in. Her and Victoria are related in some way. We were
able to talk with her for a little bit and we set up an appointment
with her for Wednesday. We are really excited for it.

Also, this Wednesday we are going to be able to go to the Temple as a
mission. This will be Elder Redmond's first time in the D.C. temple so
I am excited for him to see it. It is so beautiful. I can't wait to

This past week we had a really great district meeting about having the
companionship of the Holy Ghost and purifying our hearts. I really
learned a lot from it. I learned that I need to be striving to have a
pure heart each and every day. I know that as we do this we will be
able to have the Holy Ghost with us at all times. I am working on it
for sure, and I invite everyone to think about where their heart is at
in the grand scheme of things. What can we all do to be more purified?

Well, I love you all. I hope you have a great week!

2-10-14 Hermana Peterson - Back almost 100%!!

Gah. The time goes by so fast on Mondays. I feel like I just got on and now I´m having to get off!! But, this week was so good. To start off, Eloisa got baptized! What a wonderful woman she is. She´s so great! And she´s so excited to start on this path in the church!

Eloisa's baptism!!
Now, we´re working with Cecilia and Bernardita that are friends with Vilma (who was baptized a few weeks ago). She´s such a fantastic missionary! Cecilia has fecha for the 1st and we´re going to put fecha with Bernardita for the 8th. Please keep them in your prayers so that they can keep progressing and get baptized! Also, we´re working with Patricia who HAS FELT THE SPIRIT AND still feels it in her house. BUT, her husband doesn´t want her to get baptized because she was already baptized. So, we´ve got to work with her, and her husband, but keep them in your prayers too. We´re working with a few other people, but those 3 are our main investigators!

This week I really started taking notes while I´m studying and I just am getting so much more out of it! I learned a lot about the importance of the Holy Ghost and the Book of Mormon this week and how together, they are the best tool that we have as missionaries! How are your readings going in the Book of Mormon? Are you all reading daily?!

Happy birthday this week to Grandpa Z! Gramps, I wish we could celebrate together, but we´ll have to celebrate apart. I love you!!! :)

Okay and that´s a rap. BOOM BOOM CH.
Question, do you prefer more photos or more writing. The computers take forever to download the pictures, so it´s gonna have to be one or the other. I don´t really care, but what do you prefer?!

My back is almost 100% better! I only stayed in for maximum 2 hours this week. We´ve been working super hard and we´re seeing the results!

THANK YOU for your prayers and I promise my email will be better next week! Seth and Bekah are getting letters in the mail tomorrow.

2/3/14 Hermana Peterson - Working hard, still in pain...

Oh family you :)
How are things back in the crazy Peterson house? I hope not too crazy. Happy birthday this week to Bransen (today) and Mikelle on Sunday! I love you both and hope you have good days!
So this week was a good one. Cambios have been hard, but I´m so grateful for Hermana Morán. We´re very different in many ways, but very similar too. I´m learning how to accept people for who they are and she´s been so good to me! I´m excited for these next few weeks!
So, the back is still the back. BUT, I did work more this week (pain or not) and so there is improvement! Just gotta keep the fingers crossed. I know there are more blessings that we can count from the trials that we have, and one that we saw this week was that we got to start teaching my physical therapist. He´s a 25 year old man who is looking, but hasn´t found a religion yet. I´ve got my last session with him today, and we´re going to invite him to be baptized and get his address! YAY! Also, Yolanda was baptized on Saturday and Eloisa is going to be baptized this Saturday! She´s 92! Please keep them both in your prayers! It´s been a miracle of a process with them. The only desire they have is to be clean and now Yolanda is! I love this gospel and all the things it provides for us!
My new companion, Hermana Morán with Yolanda (her baptism)
and Eloisa (who will get baptized this week)!!

So this week, as we were talking about how we can best help the hermanas in our group (the missionaries) we felt really strongly that we need to help them have experiences with Christ. We´ve really been focusing on becoming converted, and this is the way we know conversion comes. I´ve had a few really powerful moments with my Savior here in my mission and I´m so glad for these. They have strengthened me so much as a person, and helped me start to become who I am now. I was studying and I came across Helaman 3:35 which says, "Nevertheless they did fast and pray oft, and did wax stronger and stronger in their humility, and firmer and firmer in the faith of Christ, unto the filling their souls with joy and consolation, yea, even to the purifying and the sanctification of their hearts, which sanctification cometh because of their yielding their hearts unto God." WOW! This scripture hit me so much, and easily became my favorite. Through prayer and fasting, we can truly align our hearts with the desire of our Savior. This is the only thing I desire. I´ve learned here in the mission, that as I forget ME and forget my problems, I can become a better instrument in His hands. I can become clean, and become converted! I also this week finished the story of Abinadi. This is and has been my favorite story in the Book of Mormon. He´s a rock star and I want to be just like him! It gets me every time and I challenge you all to read it this week.
One more story, so this week we found a family of 8. Mom, Dad, and kids. Well we went back for our follow up apt. and only the 17 year old daughter was there. We had such a powerful lesson with her, and it was amazing to feel the Spirit there. She has been always looking but has never felt filled. We invited her to pray and read and she said she would. PLEASE keep them and Eloisa in your prayers this week!
Well, I´ve got to run! I love you all so much! I´ll try to send a ton of pictures this next week!

2/3/14 Elder Peterson - Okay here comes the big letter....well as big as I can get it!

From Hermana Peterson in Chile!!

Hello everyone!

Things are real crazy up in DC North mission. We have had a few changes but they are things that we are getting used to. So first things is getting a little warm over here. It is kind of nice. I love it a lot. I haven't had to wear an overcoat for the past couple of days. And secondly, Elder Redmond and I are not getting along anymore...I am just kidding he is the coolest! He is starting to fit right in to missionary work.

Our investigators are doing okay. We have two really promising ones that if you would like to keep them in your prayers, that would be greatly appreciated! The first one, Mark is a guy that we tracted into a couple of weeks ago. It is kind of a cool story but I will tell you all later. We have been able to teach him a couple of lessons and he is very receptive to the Gospel. He keeps telling us how he is learning a lot and he feels the Spirit while we meet. He will come around for sure. Also Debbie is a lady that is super nice and we have met with her a couple of times and this past Saturday we were able to take her over to the Gunnells which is a family in our ward for dinner and a show. She really enjoyed it. Please pray that Elder Redmond and I will be able to know what to say and do so that they can both come to church for the first time.

Another change that we have had is that we have all received our own personal Ipads. Crazy right? It is a huge adjustment because we won't be carrying around a personal planner anymore and we won't have to have any paper records. Everything will be online now. The next couple weeks we will be taking time to transfer the paper records onto our Ipads. It is going to be nice to carry the whole ward in our hands! "I've got the whole ward, in my hands, I've got the whole ward, in my hands"...:)
Well, I sure do love you all. I know that the gospel is true. And by gospel I sincerely mean the "Good News."
